Ha Long - HANOI TOUR |

Day 1: This morning we depart Hanoi early for a 11 hours drive to Son La (
320km from Hanoi ). We will reach the small township of Mai Chau in time for
lunch before continuing onto Son La. Arriving at our destination for today by
late afternoon we will check into our local guest house. Son La is located in a
scenic valley, inhabited by Thai, Muong and H’mong minority people. This are is
historically important for its involvement in the Vietnamese struggle for
independence from France during the early decades of this century.
Day 2: Breakfast. Visit the remains of the old French prison and have a dip in
the local hot springs before boarding our vehicle for the drive to Dien Bien Phu
around 170km away. It is a 7 hour journey on rough roads, but it is worth it as
the scenery is breathtaking. By late afternoon we arrive in Dien Bien town and
check into our guest house for the night.
Day 3: Breakfast. Dien Bien Phu visiting the former battlefields, the museum and
some of the hill tribe villages. Tonight will be our second night in Dien Bien
Phu.
Day 4: Breakfast. Drive to Phong Tho, around 8 hours away. As our journey
progresses the roads deteriorate considerably and increase traveling time,
however the scenery more than makes up of this. Once we reach Phong Tho we will
visit the local market that is becoming popular with visitors that want to make
the effort to get here. It is often touted as one of the most colorful markets
in Vietnam. From Phong Tho we will continue the short distance to Tam Duong and
our guest house for this night.
Day 5: Breakfast. Drive east to Sapa. As the roads become even rougher, the more
deserted they get. But the rougher they get, the more scenic they are. The
beautiful hill station of Sapa has the best of both words, breath-taking scenery
and modern-day comforts. We leave the Tam Duong Hotel at 07h30 and arrive in
Sapa around 12h30. After lunch we have the afternoon free to explore the
township. We spend tonight at a nice hotel in Sapa.
Day 6: Breakfast. 5 hour trek to the hill tribe villages of Cat Cat, Tavan and
Cau May. Meet some of the local minority people on their way to and from Sapa.
These minority people, including the Red Zao, H’mong and Tay people, walk to
Sapa to trade at the markets. Lunch on way. Second night in our hotel at Sapa
town.
Day 7: Breakfast. 11 hour journey back to Hanoi along some of Vietnams most
scenic roads.
Day 8: Breakfast. Drive of 270km through the flatlands of the Red River Delta
and up into the mountain areas north of Hanoi. As we progress further north, the
scenery becomes more and more picturesque. Our scheduled lunch stop will be at Bac Can town. From here it is only around two and a half hour to our
destination. Arriving in Ba Be town and then head out for a bit of exploration
before the sun sets.
Day 9: Breakfast. Drive the short distance to the jetty. Here we will board our
private boat for a cruise on the lake. Weather permitting we can have a swim in
crystal clear waters before having lunch on board. Lunch. 3 hour trek to a DZao
village. This will enable us to witness how little the lives of the people in
these remote areas have changed. Arriving back at the jetty we will transfer
back to our hotel. Tonight we spend our second night in Ba Be.
Day 10: Breakfast. 90km drive to Cao Bang. It is at Cao Bang that the H’mong,
Dzao, Tho and Nung ethnic minority people live in harmony. We will arrive at Cao
Bang by mid to late morning and spend a little time sharing cultural experiences
with these people. After lunch we will visit Pac Po, Ho Chi Minhs hideout when
he came back to Vietnam after 30 years of self imposed exile, and the place from
where he organized his resistance army against the French. From there it’s a 3
hour trek to a village of Nung minority people. Late this afternoon we drive
back to Cao Bang for our overnight stay at the local hotel.
Day 11: Breakfast. Depart for Ban Gioc waterfall. It is a three hour drive from
Cao Bang to Ban Gioc waterfall, which forms a natural border between Vietnam and
China. While here we will have a swim and a picnic lunch near the waterfall.
This afternoon we will return to Cao Bang for our second night stay.
Day 12: Breakfast. 150km drive to Lang Son on the Chinese border. This town has
become a booming trading town since the normalization of relations between
Vietnam and China in the early 1990’s. After lunch we go to visit Nhi Thanh
Cave, Tam Thanh Pagoda and the market at Dong Kinh, the biggest market in the
area fully stocked with Chinese goods. Tonight we stay at Lang Son.
Day 13: Breakfast. Depart Lang Son for the 180km drive to Ha Long city, we pass
along some very scenic roads on our way south. We will arrive in Ha Long City in
time for a late lunch and walking tour of the area. We spend tonight in Ha Long
City.
Day 14: Breakfast. Board our private boat for a cruise around the majestic
waters of Ha Long Bay. While cruising there will the opportunity to visit Thien
Cung- Dau Go or Sung Sot limestone caves in the area and have a swim. Local
seafood lunch will be served on the boat. After a pleasant day on the water we
return to Ha Long City for our second night here.
Day 15: Breakfast. Return to Hanoi only four hours away. Stop at Dong Trieu, one
of two traditional ceramics villages in Northern Vietnam. The second stop is at
the Sao Do charity center. The latter is a non government organization run to
raise money for disabled people. We arrive back in the nations capital at around
13h00.

Day 1: Hanoi arrival at Noi Bai Airport. Meeting with guide and transfer to
the hotel. Welcome dinner featured with Vietnamese specialty. Overnight in
hotel.
Day 2: Depart for Ba Be Lake, an mountain area, which is nearly 200km far from
Hanoi. Arrive on midday. Visit Ba Be area: Nang river, grottos, waterfall.
Overnight at ethnic village, namely Pac Ngoi, where visitors can get to know
about Tay People. Enjoy daily meals of ethnic minorities.
Day 3: 7-hour hard trekking to visit Tay’s village accompanied by local guide.
Take away lunch will be arranged. It takes 5-hour walk to the village - spend
time with ethnic people. Overnight in the village.
Day 4: Trek back Babe lake. Free day for leisure. Overnight in guest’s house.
Day 5: Depart to Tuyen Quang, an old headquarter of Viet Nam Revolution. Lunch
on the way. Visit French defeating Revolution’s vestiges. Overnight in Tuyen
Quang.
Day 6: Depart to Ha Giang town in 4 hour by Van. Free time to visit this
beautiful town. Overnight in Ha Giang Hotel.
Day 7: Depart in the early morning to visit the wonderful world of ethnic
minorities people. Going on the mountain with many impressive sceneries and
visiting many basically ethnic villages and colorful weekly markets. Lunch at Quang Ba town. Overnight in Dong Van guest house.
Day 8: Return to Ha Giang from Dong Van. Continually to discover some cheerful
and colorful ethnic Markets on the way. Lunch at Yen Ninh town. Overnight in Ha
Giang
Day 9: Transfer back to Tuyen Quang town. Overnight in Tuyen Quang.
Day 10: Leave for Bac Ha via Bac Can town, Khe Pass, Tuyen Quang province.
Overnight in Sao Mai guest house. This day is a hard traveling by car but there
will be beautiful scenery on route.
Day 11: Visit Can Cau Market (Saturday only) - an outstanding feature of ethnic
people in the North. Buy souvenirs from ethnic people. Short walk to discover
some surrounding villages (4-6 hours) with local guide. Overnight in Sao Mai
hotel
Day 12: Depart for Tam Duong. Stop en route to visit Bac Ha market which is
organized weekly only in Saturday. 5 hour trekking to discover villages of
ethnic minorities (San Diu, Ha Nhi, Xa, etc) that remain natural and unspoiled by
tourists. Overnight in Tam Duong guest’s house
Day 13: Trekking by shortcut to Sin Ho village. Car will meet travelers at Sin
Ho village. Continue to Lai Chau town. Overnight in Lai Chau in guest’s house
Day 14: Free day in the village to get acquaintance with the life of ethnic
people Overnight in village of ethnic people
Day 15: Leave Lai Chau for Dien Bien Phu. Visit the old battle field. Overnight
in Dien Bien guest house
Day 16: Early leave Dien Bien for Hanoi. Re-check in hotels.
Day 17: Transfer to airport to leave Hanoi. End of Northern Tour

Day 1:
Arriving at Hanoi Noi Bai airport. Relaxation and welcome dinner. Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 2: Breakfast. All day city tour: a choice of sightseeing, major attractions, back-street
exploration, special interest visits, markets, etc. Lunch. Traditional Water Puppetry
performance in the evening. Dinner. Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 3: Breakfast. A day exploring a selection of the many villages surrounding Hanoi and the
rural environment of the Red River Delta. Depending upon the chosen route,
transport can be by car, bicycle, motor bicycle, boat etc. Lunch and Dinner
included. Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 4: Breakfast. Ha Long Bay (UNESCO World Heritage Area). Cruise on traditional wooden sampan
away from tourist areas - swimming, fishing, hill (not mountain) climbing for
Bay overviews, exploring sea level caves in a small sampan, visit to floating
village, etc. All meals provided, with plenty of fresh seafood. Dinner. Overnight on the
boat.
Day 5: Breakfast. Morning cruising Ha Long Bay, stopping at Ha Long market to buy fresh seafood
and vegetables to be cooked on the boat for lunch. Return to Hanoi for
overnight sleeper train to Sapa. Dinner.
Days 6, 7 and 8:
Two and a half-day trek through the villages of the H’mong, Giay, Dzao and Tay
ethnic people. ‘Al fresco’ picnic lunches. Dinner and accommodation in ethnic
stilt houses both nights. On the third day, trek in the morning. Stream-side
picnic lunch, return by jeep to Sa Pa and overnight.
Day 9: Breakfast. Full day jeep tour to a local market. Lunch and Dinner included. Overnight sleeper to Hanoi.
Day 10: Breakfast. Arrive in Hanoi early morning. Free day. Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 11: Breakfast. Morning flight to Hue, Thien Mu Pagoda, Perfume River, etc. Lunch and Dinner
