The trip
should be made in the dry season from late October to late May. Anyone who is
physically fit can join the tour. Food, drinking water and personal equipment
such as insect repellent, medical kits, etc. are not included. • Con Dao
National Park, about 180km southeast of Vung Tau, was established in early 1984
with a total area of 15,043 ha of which 6,043 ha are covered with forests. The
park is a restricted ecosystem with diverse flora & fauna and if visitors are
lucky enough, they can spot turtles laying eggs on the beach.

• Bach Ma National Park, 45km southwest of Hue,
was established in mid 1986 and covers a rolling mountainous area of 22,030 ha.
The forest, in addition to its indigenous flora, also has various species of
plant originating in both the north and the south.
• Cuc Phuong National Park, just 140km from Hanoi, was established in 1962 as
the first national park in Vietnam and covers a limestone area of about 22,200
ha. This is a typical evergreen rain forest with five canopies consisting of
three canopies of big trees, one of shrubs and one of snow grass. Prehistoric
vestiges of human species and fossils of dinosaurs dating back to some 230
million years ago also exist in Cuc Phuong.
Day 1: Arrival in Ho Chi Minh City (D)
Arrive at Tan Son Nhat Airport. Pick up and transfer to a hotel. An afternoon
tour round Ho Chi Minh City, formerly called Saigon, features the History Museum,
the Binh Tay Market in Chinatown, Thien Hau Temple and a lacquer workshop. Overnight in
Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 2: Ho Chi Minh City- Con Dao (B, L, D)
Transfer to Vung Tau Airport for a short helicopter flight to Con Dao. On arrival
at Ben Dam Airport, pick up and transfer to a hotel. Con Dao, called Poulo Condore
by Western sailors, housed a large and brutal prison for political convicts
before 1975. In the afternoon, visit the Con Dao National Park office, followed by
a seminar on turtle rescue. Overnight in Con Dao.
Day 3: Con Dao (B, L, D)
A cluster of wild islets surrounded by emerald tranquil waters, Con Dao is home
to a number of species of sea turtle and dugong. Escorted by a park ranger, take
a full-day boat ride to Bay Canh Islet and Cau Islet, their natural habitat.
Picnic lunch of seafood is arranged on board. Enjoy snorkelling and sunbathing
on primitive beaches. Overnight in Con Dao.
Day 4: Con Dao — Ho Chi Minh City (B, L, D)
The morning programme features historical sites in town such as the
Con Dao Museum and the notorious former prison tiger cages. In the afternoon,
transfer to the airport for a helicopter flight back to Ho Chi Minh City. Overnight in
Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 5: Ho Chi Minh City— Hue— Bach Ma (B, L, D)
Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Hue. Pick up and transfer to Bach
Ma (25km), at the foot of the Bach Ma Mountain (1,444 metres). Visit the Bach Ma
National Park office, followed by a seminar on ranger training. Take a 4WD car
ride to the Morin - Bach Ma Villas with panoramic views of lagoons, sand dunes
and mountains. Bach Ma used to be a hill retreat with 139 colonial-styled villas
some of which are upgraded with modern facilities. In the afternoon, accompanied
by a park guide, trek (5km) along park trails to explore the diversity of the
local fauna and flora. Overnight in Bach Ma.
Day 6: Bach Ma — Hue (B, L, D)
Bach Ma, home to 330 species of bird, is considered a birdwatchers’ paradise. If
lucky enough, trekkers can see countless birds at close range along the trails.
Spend the whole day trekking (7km) through a dense jungle from the Five Lakes to
Do Quyen Falls. A picnic lunch is served. The trip offers opportunities to swim
in small natural lakes under foliage and conquer mountain cliffs along streams.
Return to Hue. In the evening, a typical royal court dinner with a presentation
of ancient dancing and music is arranged (minimum group size: 10). Overnight in Hue.
Day 7: Hue — Hanoi (B, L, D)
The morning sightseeing tour focuses on the Imperial Citadel, built in 1804 on a
site chosen in accordance with the principles of geomancy, and the Dong Ba
Market, famous for its best conical hats in Vietnam. In the afternoon, transfer
to the airport for a short flight to Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital city of tree-lined
streets and centuries-old temples. Pick up and transfer to a hotel. Overnight in
Hanoi.
Day 8: Hanoi- Cuc Phuong (B, L, D)
The morning sightseeing tour features both cultural and historical highlights,
comprising the Temple of Literature, the Ethnology Museum, the old quarters and a
downtown pedicab ride (1 hour). In the afternoon, transfer to Cuc Phuong (120km)
across fascinating countryside of the Red River Delta. Cuc Phuong National Park is
home to 2,000 species of flora, 1,800 species of insect, 320 species of bird, 70
species of mammal, etc. Overnight in Cuc Phuong.
Day 9: Cuc Phuong (B, L, D)
Escorted by a park guide, depart for a full-day trek to see giant trees of 50m
high. First, transfer by car to the park centre (20km), stop by a prehistoric
cave and the Vu Huong tree (Cinamomum balansae) en route. Take a trek (6km) to
the 1,000-year-old tree (Terminalia myriocarapa) on a scenic trail. Have picnic
lunch at the park centre. In the afternoon, continue to trek (8km) to the Dang
tree (Tetrameles nudiflora) on a steep trail through a dense jungle. Overnight in Cuc
Phuong.
Day 10: Cuc Phuong — Hanoi (B, L, D)
In the morning, visit the park museum, the botanical garden with a collection of
252 species of rare plant and the endangered primate rescue centre, followed by
a seminar on primate rescue. In the afternoon, transfer to Hanoi. The day ends
with a water puppet show, a theatrical genre reflecting the agricultural
civilization of thousands of years ago. Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 11: Departure from Hanoi (B)
Spend last minutes for downtown shopping (ceramics, silver-carvings, silk,...)
or at leisure before check-out. Transfer to the airport for departure
