City tour including Cholon, the War Remnants museum and the Reunification Palace. China town is home to HCMC's substantial Chinese population and also is the site for the largest market in Vietnam, the Binh Tay market. The War Remnants Museum has a wealth of images from the wars, the most moving being a gallery entitled Requiem which is dedicated to Vietnamese and foreign journalists and photographers that perished during the French and American conflicts. The Reunification Palace was the former residence of the President of South Vietnam until April, 30th, 1975 when the North Vietnamese tanks came crashing through the front gates, bringing the American War to a dramatic end. Close to the Palace, some of the best examples of French colonial architecture are represented in the forms of Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office. The ornate Notre Dame Cathedral dominates the business centre of town, built by the French between 1877 and 1883, the stone used to create it was exported in its entirety from France. Next to the cathedral stands the Central Post Office, finished in 1891. For all its French colonial history, Ho Chi Minh City is by far and away Vietnam's most modern city. Free in the evening. HCMC has numerous shopping malls, cinemas, discotheques and a bewildering number of bars and this evening you will have the opportunity to see just what the city has to offer at nighttime!

Day 3: Ho Chi Minh - Tay Ninh - Cu Chi (B, L, D)
Enjoy a morning drive through typical southern Vietnamese countryside to Tay Ninh Province in the west of Vietnam. At Tay Ninh visit the incredible Cao Dai Great Temple, with architecture that could have come straight from a Walt Disney fantasy and where all the major faiths of the world blend together in a unique religious cocktail. Visitors will attend the noon prayer session to witness the daily ceremony held by the Caodaism followers, which is a great experience. The best position to see is from a balcony which overlooks the chequered floor of the nave. From there, beyond the highly decorative pillars you can see a great globe with a large eye perched on top of the main altar. Have lunch. Onward to the famous Cu Chi Tunnels, a dense system of tunnels, 250kms at it’s length, 30kms away from HCMC, known as the biggest underground village in the history of warfare. The peacefully rural rice paddy scenery contains ducks and water buffalos swimming in the rivers alongside the road. Arrive in Cu Chi, you will find it hard to imagine the destructions, damages and defoliation all over the area, caused by bombing and mines when Cu Chi was "A Free Target Zone". The remnants you will see shows Cu Chi still has her evidence to prove the fierce battleground that took place there. Back HCMC, have dinner and Overnight in HCMC.
