The battlefield of Dien Bien Phu

Overview:   The highlight of this trip forward the famous historic battlefield of Dien Bien Phu, where the French, after nearly 100 years of colonization and nine years of war, were defeated in 1954 by the Viet Minh lead by Ho Chi Minh. War relics are main attractive spots but the beauty of the flat, heart-shaped Muong Thanh valley and the inordinary life of Thai people here are worth visiting, too... Duration:   6 Days / 5 Nights

Day 1: Hanoi (D)
Pick up at Noi Bai airport and transfer to hotel. Free at leisure. Dinner. Enjoy puppetry show. Overnight at the hotel.

Have a morning tour of Hanoi to see Vietnam Army museum in order to get some understanding about the France -Vietnam war before transferring to the airport for a short flight to Dien Bien Phu, the old battlefield. You will be welcomed at Muong Thanh airport. Check in hotel for lunch and relax in the afternoon.

Day 3: Dien Bien Phu (B,L,D)
Full day touring around the battlefields. You see the museum of Dien Bien with exhibits collected during the fiercest war in Indochina during the 1950s, then we visit the vestiges of bunkers and fortified stations of over 16,000 French Expeditionary troops (including Elliane Hill and De Castries bunkers…). You will also be able to see the headquarter of Vietnamese army (VietMinh) which lies some 30km away. And finally you will understand why the French lost here and ended their attempt to control Indochina. Overnight in Dien Bien.

Day 4: Dien Bien Phu (B,L,D)
A day of sightseeing or trekking into villages of the ethnic minority Thai people. Overnight in Dien Bien.

Day 5: Dien Bien Phu - Hanoi (B,L,D)
Morning flight back to Hanoi. You will be met again at the airport in Hanoi and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, visit Revolutionary Museum, History Museum before taking a cyclo tour around Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Temple and Hanoi’s Old Quarter. After a couple of days exploring the mountainous city of Dien Bien with peaks in the cloud, hill tribe's hamlets and local people in their traditional costumes, the trade streets full of vivid color and bustle sound will give you a new feeling of Vietnam. Free at leisure in the evening after dinner.

Day 6: Hanoi — Departure (B)
After breakfast, free for shopping at 36 old streets till check out to transfer to airport for departure.
